For a player who mainly wants the game, Standard is the clearest purchase. On PlayStation’s United States listing it is $20 less than Ultimate and still includes the base game, the Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+ and a seven-day preload. Ultimate adds the benefits in Rockstar’s published Ultimate Edition Upgrade; the decision is whether those extras are worth the premium.

That recommendation is intentionally limited. Rockstar’s main page presents the Ultimate Edition and Vintage Vice City Pack, while PlayStation supplies the clearest line-by-line US store comparison we could verify. PatchCrest did not find equivalent official Xbox price and entitlement detail in the primary sources used for this guide, so the PS5 figures below remain labeled as PS5/US information.

Standard vs Ultimate: confirmed PS5 comparison

The table reflects the wording on PlayStation’s US product page, not a promise that currencies and bundles are identical worldwide. A storefront may display tax differently, impose account or subscription eligibility conditions, or change promotional text. The product page visible at checkout is the operative record for a specific transaction.

The $20 difference is easy to calculate; its value is personal. Rockstar Support now publishes the Ultimate upgrade’s full named benefit list, while this comparison keeps the buying decision readable. The dedicated Ultimate Edition guide explains all 16 items and the separate upgrade path.

Both editions include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar identifies three benefits in that pack: a 1955 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, three outfits and hairstyles, and a Gilded Age weapon pattern. Eligibility and account terms still need to be checked on the final store listing.

What the seven-day preload means

Both editions can preload from local midnight on November 12, 2026, according to Rockstar Support. That lets buyers download locked game data before launch; it does not provide seven days of early play. A preload also does not reveal the final file size. The reviewed Rockstar and PlayStation pages do not publish a storage requirement. Placeholder sizes can appear in databases well before release and may exclude language packs or updates. Players with limited storage should wait for a platform-level figure close to launch before deleting other games or buying storage.

The included month of GTA+

PlayStation lists one month of GTA+ with both editions. GTA+ is Rockstar’s membership program, but the precise redemption, renewal and eligibility terms matter more than the headline. A promotional month may require an eligible account, internet connection and acceptance of subscription terms. Automatic renewal behavior, if any, should be checked on the final store screen.

The inclusion does not by itself confirm the structure or launch timing of any GTA VI online mode. It is a store entitlement attached to the product listing. Rockstar’s current GTA VI page focuses on the game, editions, world and media; it is not a complete online-services roadmap. Do not assume a PlayStation purchase creates an Xbox entitlement, or that a bonus described in one region transfers to another region’s account.

Start with the base game

Both official PS5 listings include Grand Theft Auto VI. If the goal is to play the story at launch, that shared entitlement is the foundation of the decision. Bonuses should be compared only after confirming that the edition, platform and region are correct.

Price the difference, not the marketing volume

On the US PlayStation page, the difference between Standard and Ultimate is $20. The upgrade’s 16 named benefits span vehicles, weapons, clothes, property and collectible support. The useful question is how many of those benefits matter to you—not how much space the marketing gives them.

Separate convenience from access

The preload is a convenience included with both editions. It may be valuable for slower connections, but it does not provide earlier play. Likewise, a subscription month has value only if it is usable and desired. Pack items may be attractive without affecting the core game.

Save the listing

Wait if PC availability, exact file size, delivery timing or still-unpublished bonus functions determine the purchase. Waiting is a legitimate preorder decision. Rockstar has not stated that the base game requires an advance purchase, and a later purchase allows more information to arrive before money changes hands.

Whichever route you take, read the edition name one final time at checkout. “Ultimate,” “upgrade,” and “pack” are distinct labels. Confirm the platform says PS5 or Xbox Series X|S as intended, and remember that the announced launch date is November 19, 2026.
